Default In Black and White

Okay, this was originally a Harry Potter poem, but I changed a few things to make it more general. I had the same idea in my mind when I wrote it though, so the meaning didn't change.

In Black and White

My mind… mind is racing.
Try to study, always study.
Keeps thoughts off other things.
Things of sorrow, bad times ahead.
Stay focused on the pages in front
Not memories behind
It’ll be alright.

Study, just study.

I can’t focus,
Mind gone astray.
The war is fresh
Tearing me apart.
Nowhere to run.
I can’t deal with this,
But there’s no escaping.

Study, just study.

Fear rising up.
Tears coming down.
Heart falling down.
Life going down.
Going down again.
When will things ever
Start going back up?

Study, just study.

What will happen to those I love?
My parents, who could never
Fully understand me
And be a part of my life,
But loved me all the same.
Will I ever get another chance
To show them my love?

Study, just study.

What about him?
Sweet, sweet and stubborn
But I’d die without him.
I need him by my side,
Always there until I die.
Or else I’d fall apart.

Study, just study.

Close the books.
They won’t help now.
It’s too late, it’s time.
Go out and fight, side by side.
Books won’t always be there to help,
Because not everything is written clear
In black and white.

So study, just study.
Study the one thousand words
that paint the picture.
