Default reading books for school

does anyone find that reading books when you have to makes the book dull? i think the only book i liked that i had to read was Lord of the Flies by William Golding. Hatchet, How to Kill a Mockingbird and Frankenstein (to name afew) seemed really interesting, but were dull when i was forced to read them.

i was just curious of what others thought and it's also true for you.

with writting, i think i work better if there's no set time. there's no rush to fit all my ideas in. i like to have fun with the characters and get to know them.

but if there's no time limit, i never finish a story and i won't work on it for months at a time.

I had to read To Kill a Mockingbird for school, but I really liked it. Maybe its the fact that you feel forced to read it, so you can't really enjoy it. Having to read a certain number of pages at certain times can ruin a book for you.

I dunno, I guess I've just been blessed with good English teachers. I actually find it more interesting to read some books (To Kill a Mockingbird, Catcher in the Rye, Secret Life of Bees, Fahrenheit 451, Dandelion Wine, 1984, Oedipus Rex, etc.) with my class. Plays, especially, can be quite amusing when everybody gets into it, no matter how trivial or irritating the actual work (Romeo & Juliet, for example...). Then again, my English teachers are all really into artistic projects and open class discussions rather than a series of essays per book.

Personally, I never let the page restrictions hinder me. I would stop when I felt like it. (Yes, I'm *such* a badass... >.<)

You rebel. Haha.

But I usually just read on past what we were supposed to read, so I don't ever feel restricted.

I read Catcher in the Rye outside of school and I loved it. It was hilarious. I haven't read it in forever; I should reread it sometime. What did you think about it?

I loved Catcher in the Rye. Holden is simply hilarious. I love how he's cynical and fresh at the same time.
