Arrow I, Jaun de Pareja

I, Juan de Pareja is the story of a black slave who belongs to Don Diego Velazquez, a painter of the spainish royal family. Slave were forbidden to paint or take part in the Arts at all. But Juan teaches himself by watching his Master and listening to the advice he would give to apprentices. Juan draws and eventually paints, but he is in fear that it will be discovered. Finally one day one of his paintings of the kings dogs is seen by the king by Juan own devises. When his master sees this beautiful painting he immediatly frees Juan, and later his wife frees her slave, Lolis so they can marry and their children will not be slaves.
It is a wonderful story full of one mans desires and fears and pains. And in the end after Velazquez dies he helps the king paint the 'Knights Cross' on the breast of Velazquez's only self portrait.
