Default Is it right to seek revenge for a wrong done to you?

We are doing a debate in class on the merchant of venice...... is it wrong for Shylock (in this case) to seek revenge on Antonio. If you haven't read the merchant of venice, just express your opinion on the topic.

Default Yes it is wrong to seek revenge

Revenge is wrong period. It is not okay and it never will be okay to hurt someone for any reason at all. Revenge is unecessary pain and alot of hurt for no reason and no reason will ever be good.

Red face revenge

Shylock did and didn't have reasons to seek revenge. It all depends on your views....

Revenge for what? While I'm not one to seek revenge, it really depends on the instance.

Okay, we're reading Romeo and Juliet when that question came up. To me, it depends what they did. if it was really bad, and you'll never be able to forgive them, revenge is GOOD. But if you knew you could even POSSIBLY forgive them, revenge is a BAD BAD idea!

Well thats all Missy has to say!

In some instances, i think revenge is justified, i don't know if it is the right thing to do or not, im not in a position to put myself in those people's shoes and know what they are thinking. I think petty revenge is ridiculous and a waste of time, but revenge for say, murder of a family member, where the authorities can't help you i would say is justified.

When you say 'revenge a murder" do you mean killing the murderer because I could see a vicious cycle there.... I would say "an eye for and eye leaves the whole world blind" but it doesn't..it just leaves everyone with one eye....someone needs to rethink that fun saying

Going back to revenge...

I think that revenge is justified in 'fictional' worlds. For example, in the world of fiction, I think Harry Potter should have revenge on Malfoy. As a matter of fact I hope he has revenge on Malfoy. In the 'real' world I think the only acceptable revenge is a sentance that a judge rules, except the death penelty, but that is a whole differant discussion. (If you want some extra posts, start a discussion on that topic...hint, hint )
