Default not so great read

recently my school forced all sophmores to read the catcher in the rye. although it has been deemed a classic by many, i thought it lacked a solid plot, and more importantly a conclusive ending. it was made worse by the fact we had just finshed night, which is about a boy in a concentration camp, who's right around the age of the catcher in the ryes main character. after hearing how nights narrator suffered, it was hard to have any sympathy for a spoiled whinning prep school kid. has anyone ele ever read the catcher in the rye?
