The Key to being yourself I think is knowing who you are. I spent last summer in India where I'm from, and it was really relaxing and great to be home. I did a lot of soul searching and was so ready for high school when I got back. I knew who I was so it was a lot easier to be me.

Also in high school everything is a lot less centralized, I hang out with a lot of upper class men who are a lot like me, so it's hard not to be me now.

Finding the right friends is also important, you have to be able to find people who will encourage and love who you are.

Hope I helped, welcome to TeenLit

I agree with vana. but I have the same problem here, so lol your not alone! anywayz my advice would be to just do what you like no matter what and if your friends are really your friends they shouldn't care, if not then get new friends that enjoy what you do or don't care that you do it.

There are some things you might just have to keep a little quieter than others; It stinks when people don't share your interests, but if you aren't incredibly loud about it, others will leave you alone. You can talk about poetry to the few friends who can tolerate you at all times, write in your notebook when you're bored with your other classmates, and enjoy being the only one in good spirits in english.

If you go to a big school, where teachers have multiple classes during the day from the same grade, then you could quietly and discreetly go ask your LA teacher if there was anyone in any other class who liked - or even tolerated - the poetry unit that they're doing.

I know what you mean about junior high. What you have is bored kids, who are still sort of kids, only with no recess. since they can't play kill the carrier, they resort to other violence, namely DRAMA.

well i'm a big orchestra dork and i practice all the time. i love my cello. people at my school don't really care much for classical music but i don't care. the best way to be yourself without haveing to worry about what other people think is you can make it cool in your own way. if its poetry write something really funny and publish it in a school newspaper (if you have one). people can laugh and see your creative side. they wont think its weird if there's humor involved. Who knows? poetry could be the next big thing at your school.

i had that problem last year i was so nervous to fit in, if you make humor out of things, like runnerkgirl said, people wont be annoyed or call you geek, being funny always helps

Remember, when your out of highschool, KNOW ONE WILL CARE ANYMORE about all the petty *garbage* that went on in highschool, im starting to notice even now, halfway through senior year, people are a lot more mature and dont care what you wear, what you like. Probably because there are so many other bigger things to care about, college, work, THE WORLD.

It will get better, and everyone will grow up trust me
