Unhappy length

Ok I'm confused. How long are short stories? I see stories on here that are a page long and you call them "short stories" when that's more what I refer to as a "sketch" When I write "short stories", they average at least 10 pages rough. So what are your opinions on length?

Default yeah

10 pages is good none of us really write stories though, or at least not the ones i've read, they're more ideas, or beginnings...for a whole short story it could twenty pages, i'm not sure, see with me a novel is a long story...no idea, c wat other people think

People go more on word count than anything else. Or just plain longevity--if you can read it in "one sitting" then that helps too. However, I would say 20,000 words to be going into novella territory--doesn't really matter how long your story is though.

If you're wondering about posting, than something less than 10/15 pages would go here, anything longer [or the plans of an idea in the works] in "long term"

Just for length though, I think there's a word-count guide. Like:
< 250 words = microfiction.
250- 2000 = vigginette [or sketch]
2000 - 15,000 = short story
15,000 - 40,000 = novella
40K + is a novel

I think a short story is defined as anything you can read in one sitting. According to people I know, a short story is usually thought of as a story with ONE theme and ONE major conflict. However, definitions vary.

Yeah reading a story in one sitting for me can be 350 pages long. I have waaaaaay too much freetime.
