Default This is me

Hi! I'm Rick Chiantaretto. I'm a horror and dark fantasy lover, with a special place on my bookshelf for satire and social commentary (using horror and dark fantasy, of course). I recently published my first novel, Facade of Shadows, which is a young adult novel combining the legends from ancient Egypt with modern day vampires. I'm 23 years old, and started writing when I was six.

I also write for an online magazine (Scribe & Quill), am a member of the International Order of Horror Professionals (www.horrorprofessionals.org), and the League of Utah Writers. I've written many articles, including "Writing the Modern Day Vampire," "Horror Writing 101," "A Fresh Start," and "Is Cliché Cliché." I volunteer with the Salt Lake Book Festival as much as I can, and in my spare time, work full time as a PC Tech and go to school at Weber State University.

Novel length works are my favorite, but short stories are always fun to write. I'm not much of a poetry buff, so I'll try to stay off of the poetry forums, but have written a bit myself when I get in really weird moods.

Recently I was called a black sheep by a member of the real vampire community... it has a different meaning to them... and I suppose I am - and took it as a compliment.
