Do you write for yourself ( as a hobby) or for publishing purposes?

Have you ever been published? Tell us your experiences!

Published? School literary magazine, a great acheivement XD. No. I wish, but definately not.

I write as a hobby, because I like it, but the eventual goal of being published is somewhere out there. I just need to do a lot of work first, and have some fun too.

I am published two times already, with the third on the way. I'm working on being published more too, though I definitely write as a hobby as well.

My play was produced. Some odds and ends published. A couple awards/contests won. Writing is a good time.

I write as a hobby with the hopes of being published. My poems and one of my short stories have been published in a paper that a friend of mine started, it's really cool to see my stuff in print and my hopes rise to the future when I maybe being published in world-wide newspapers, and stating my own magizine.

I've only been writing for a couple of years but now it's practically all I do (outside uni that is). I'm trying to get my first book published and I'd really like to make it as a professional writer. Does anyone find it hard to tell people that they write? I told my family and they treat me like it's a bit of a joke. I hate it!

haha I love it when you keep journal and you usually only write it in it when you're really emotionally stressed because it's basically an outlet. I love to go back and read all those mean entries when I get mad at my mom or boyfriend. It just puts things in perspective you know? Like when you're writing it you feel like it's the end of the world and things will never be happy again, but chances are like three hours later something good happened or the person apologized.

Both, for me. I write simply because I love to, but I have also been published and hope to publish my novel in the future.

I've mostly published articles and stories, payless, but I just got a 5000 word historical biography published in a collection, for pay.

Thanks! :) It was about St. Patrick. It took a lot of research, especially since I couldn't use legends, and I had to list all the historical sources I used. (Which ended up as a bibliography at the end of the story, hehehe.)

Sounds tough! I thought most info on saints WAS legend, so you've done really well. Bibliographys for my work usually end up being about three sources long!

Yep, me three mostly. I do love reading equally though, and I find playing mindless computer games lets me come up with plotlines sometimes.

I always loved to write. I used to write many poems for my (now) ex-girlfriend. After that ended, I stopped writing for a while, but now I'm back in the swing of things.

A couple of my poems have already been published for a school poem book. I wrote poems about Christianity and religion, but only because the teacher was big on that, so I did it for the marks. I got a full 10% on my final mark for it, but I just sighed at the fact that it was those works I'd get recognition for.

Ahhhh well....

I simply want to write for the heck of it. To be honest, before I do get published, I'll need to find some contemporaries to chill with. =p

Here's a site that has some great exercises, my fave being the one about why I write.

It is an awesome resource.
Also go to Merlyn's Pen.

I write to write. I love it. It is my life. But right now, I AM trying to get published. I so badly want it, and the way my life is going I might need something with which to support myself if I get kicked out and have to go on my own. I also just think it would be totally awesome!

I write as a hobby - although I'm never as serious about it as I want to be. I write solely on inspiration - never could finish a story after I got bored with it.

I've been published for school things - a little here and there.
